It only took a few seconds after Ree sat down for Maria to reach across to hold her hand. If Ree wasn't around, she wasn't sure what she would do. She couldn't think of anyone else she could go to about something like this.

"I found it here in my room, on my bed. I have no idea how it go here." She was barely crying now. Crying wasn't what she needed to do. She needed to talk, and have somebody there to hold her hand and listen. "It belonged to my friend, Alex. He... he died."
