This Cassie girl was so adorable and awesome, Maria kept forgetting for moments at a time that she was supposed to be feeling sad and worried about Ree.
"You really think you can do that?" she asked, half impressed, half skeptical.
It was a crazy plan, but she'd pulled off crazier.
"Alright, bird whisperer." Maria stood up and put her phone away in the pocket of her skirt before positioning herself with her back to the window. "I'll stand here and keep watch." There weren't many people in the library during lunch break, especially not toward the back where they were, but you could never be sure when a librarian might pop their head around a row of shelves.
